MANIKAVASAGAR

Long live Sivas name (NA MA CI VA )

Long live the Lords Feet

Long live his feet that is in my memory for ever

Long live the KOKAZHI Rulers feet of gem

Long live the sweet feet expounded by Saiva Scriptures

Long live the feet of the one and the many Lord.

G.U.Pope's English Translation of Thiruvasagam

Manickavasagar took his birth in Tiruvadavur seven miles from Madurai on the banks of Vaigai river. He must have lived between 650 and 692     A.D. Some say that he flourished in the tenth or eleventh century. He secured the friendship of the king of Madurai, Arimardana Pandyan, and became his chief minister. He was also known by the name Vadavurar.

Manikavasagar Meeting the Guru

The king heard that high quality horses were on sale in the coast of the Choza kingdom. He sent the chief minister, Thiruvadhavurar, with lots of money to buy them. On the way Vadhvurar reached thirup perunthurai (Avudaiyar Kovil). There he heard from a garden the sweet chantings, “Hara Hara”. His seeking mind was overwhelmed at the sight of the guru he was yearning for. He surrendered himself to the Holy guru's feet and pleaded with him to accept him as a disciple. The God who comes voluntarily in the way of devotees to bless them enlightened him with Shivenyanam.

Endurance of Manivasagar in trusting God

The Lord probably wanted to show that patience and perseverance his pare the way to reach feet. The    horses did not arrive till in the day of  Avani Mulam. The God Somasundara Murthi who rides the bull of justice in His playful act turned the foxes in the forest horses, He came in the form of the lead man of the horses and handed over them to the king explaining to him the identification guidelines of good horses ! The Lord went off. The same night the horses again became foxes and ran all over the capital. The king did not know anything until manikkavasagar described his experience.

Manikkavasagar Becoming Shivam

Next day the priests of Thillai were surprised to find the scripture on the steps of the abode with the Lord's signature. They rushed to Manikka Vachakar and appraised him about it. They saluted and asked him to explain to them the philosophical explanation of the compositions. He took them to the golden hall abode of the Lord and showed the blissfully Dancing Lord and said He is the meaning of it and immersed himself in the Supreme Luminance and became One in Lord Shiva.

TRUTH OF MY BEING

"All matter originates and exists only by virtue of a force... We must assume behind this force the existence of a conscious and intelligent Mind. This Mind is the matrix of all matter." - Max Planck

This is "Life Transforming" stuff we're talking about here! As far as I am concerned, I do not see philosophy as Indian or non-Indian. It is not possible. Philosophy is only universal. There can be no geographical division in the human mind. You can see the world through three dimensions. One dimension is science: that is, thinking empirically about reality. The second dimension is philosophy: thinking about reality speculatively. And the third dimension is religion: not thinking about reality at all, but experiencing it. Science is based on empirical experimentation, observation and objective thinking. Philosophy is based on nonempirical, speculative thinking – subjectively based. Religion transcends both.

It's interesting that with the amazing and potentially life changing discoveries made as a result of Quantum Physics, in many of the public school systems of today, the long outdated theory of Newtonian Physics is often still taught.

The revolution of quantum physics is occurring primarily within the mind, and once its revelations are communicated in readily understood language, metaphors, and symbols so as to be transmitted to an ever-widening circle of people, all bets are off. The liberating ideas of the newly emerging quantum gnosis are not just catchy, but “catching,” in that they are contagious. Once sufficiently ignited and set aflame in the psyche of humanity, the revelations of quantum physics can and most certainly will spread like wildfire, virally and nonlocally propagating themselves through the collective unconscious of our species. A true “Reformation” of the world can be the result.

Quantum theory is the theoretical basis of modern physics that explains the nature and behavior of matter and energy on the atomic and subatomic level. The nature and behavior of matter and energy at that level is sometimes referred to as quantum physics and quantum mechanics.

The Human Aura

That light within  as the lightning’s light. It is Light that is great and red. It is the light of Siva that beams Jnana. It is the light of chakras above.

It is the light born of constant awareness of the pure sound, Aum. It is the light that is blended from all these lights.

In 1900, physicist Max Planck presented his quantum theory to the German Physical Society. Planck had sought to discover the reason that radiation from a glowing body changes in color from red, to orange, and, finally, to blue as its temperature rises. He found that by making the assumption that energy existed in individual units in the same way that matter does, rather than just as a constant electromagnetic wave - as had been formerly assumed - and was therefore quantifiable, he could find the answer to his question. The existence of these units became the first assumption of quantum theory.

Planck wrote a mathematical equation involving a figure to represent these individual units of energy, which he called quanta. The equation explained the phenomenon very well; Planck found that at certain discrete temperature levels (exact multiples of a basic minimum value), energy from a glowing body will occupy different areas of the color spectrum. Planck assumed there was a theory yet to emerge from the discovery of quanta, but, in fact, their very existence implied a completely new and fundamental understanding of the laws of nature. Planck won the Nobel Prize in Physics for his theory in 1918, but developments by various scientists over a thirty-year period all contributed to the modern understanding of quantum theory.

Without a basic understanding of Quantum Physics you might think that there are different forms of energy such as energy that powers your home, energy that makes you get out of bed in the morning and keeps you going throughout the day, energy that fuels your car, etc.

They appear from a physical sense to be varying of types of energy at the physical level, due to the varying structures and vibrational frequencies of the subatomic particles and the varying formations of sub-atomic particles which comprise them, When analyzed by Quantum Physicists and broken down into their purest form they too, at their core are all made up of this "One Energy."

Although scientists throughout the past century have balked at the implications of quantum theory - Planck and Einstein among them - the theory's principles have repeatedly been supported by experimentation, even when the scientists were trying to disprove them. Quantum theory and Einstein's theory of relativity form the basis for modern physics. The principles of quantum physics are being applied in an increasing number of areas, including quantum optics, quantum chemistry, quantum computing, and quantum cryptography. His Holiness the Dalai Lama tells a story of asking his friend and one of his “scientific gurus,” physicist David Bohm, what is wrong with the belief in the independent existence of things apart from that it does not accurately represent the true nature of our situation. His Holiness relates how Bohm answered as follows: “His response was telling.

Quantum Theory's Influence

He said that if we examine the various ideologies ideologies that tend to divide humanity, such as racism, extreme nationalism, and the Marxist class struggle, one of the key factors of their origin is the tendency to perceive things as inherently divided and disconnected. From this misconception springs the belief that each of these divisions is essentially independent and self-existent.” Bohm is pointing out that having a misconception of a situation leads to a mistaken belief that what we are seeing independently, objectively exists on its own. Thinking that our viewpoint is non-negotiably true be it our point of view about a particular issue or about the entire universe is at the root of so much rigid ideology and human-created destruction. Becoming entranced by our own mind, we can become self-righteously convinced that we are in possession of the truth, which can easily inspire and crusades to convert the unenlightened, as has been tragically evidenced throughout history again and again. It should get our highest attention that the same underlying psychological dynamic that causes us to misconstrue the nature of the apparent physical universe also causes us to divide and polarize among ourselves.

We then turn human society into different camps with irreconcilable differences that appear to be objectively real, thus creating the preconditions for endless internecine conflict and war.

Quantum Physics once understood not only can but will open your eyes to an unseen world few are aware of as well as enable and empower you to see the importance of consciously aligning your thoughts, emotions and actions with your heartfelt desires making the term Heaven on Earth more than just a nice thought or novel idea simply because, You CAN

Whether or not you may currently be aware, Quantum Physics, Spirituality, your thoughts, emotions, and success or lack of success in life are ALL closely intertwined and interconnected. In fact as modern day quantum physics has discovered and are constantly expanding upon, they and EVERYTHING else is much more interconnected than MOST realize.

The science of Yoga, therefore, is a psychology of a philosophical nature.

By changing your mind you change everything. If only we could understand this point, we would see that there is nothing wrong outside; it is all in the mind. By correcting our vision we correct things outside.

We have heard that Yoga is union, but many a time, we do not know the objects which are to be united. Now we know what 'union' actually means in the language of Yoga proper. It is a complete transcendence of our finitude. A separatist tendency persists in us, Yoga is nothing but overcoming the barriers of this individuality by entering into the oceanic expanse of our true nature, which is also the nature of everybody. When the mind is restrained in this manner, Chitta-vritti-nirodhah is effected. This false feeling that we are different from others, that things are constituted of isolated particularities, leave us; and we get established in our essential nature, which is the community of existence in all things, and not an isolated individuality. This establishment of one's own self in one's own true nature, in universal character, is the aim of Yoga.

1.4 At other times, when one is not in Self-realization, the Seer appears to take on the form of the modifications of the mind field, taking on the identity of those thought patterns.

vritti sarupyam itaratra

  • vritti = activities, fluctuations

  • sarupyam = similarity, assimilation,

  • itaratra = elsewhere, at other times,

When not in that state of realization above and when one is not in Self-realization, the Seer appears to take on the form of the modifications of the mind field, taking on the identity of those thought patterns.

Without that clarity, we take on the false identities of the impressions of the mind field. We forget, and think these are “who l am.”

Vritti

These activities which come to the surface of the mind are known as vrittis. The word vritti means 'a vortex', 'a circular activity, which has no beginning and no end'. Yoga describes five kinds of vrittis. However, rather than going into an understanding of them, we shall look at the components that make up a vritti.

Harmonizing the vrittis

The vrittis are continuously active in our mind. I am not talking about the conscious or the subconscious or the unconscious, because the intensity of a vritti is different at each level. Rather we are going to look at how the vrittis affect the whole mind. In order to harmonize, sublimate and eliminate the vrittis we need to follow a process, a sequence. When the Citta-Vrttis are not in the state of Nirodha and the Drasta is not established in his Svarupa, he is assimilated with the particular Vrtti which happens to occupy the field of his consciousness for the moment. A simile will perhaps help the student to understand this assimilation of consciousness with the transformation of the mind.

Practice

Firstly, we need to develop objective awareness in order to see exactly what is happening around us and within us without being affected by it. Developing immunity to the activity of the vrittis by becoming aware is the first sadhana. Secondly, we have to learn to let go, to relax, to release the stresses which are generated in our mind, body and emotions without any conscious control. Every event in life causes tension; tension is also the natural outcome of life. However, the moment this tension becomes intense, it begins to affect the behaviour of the mind and body in a negative way. Learning how to relax and manage the external and internal tensions is the second sadhana. Thirdly, we need to provide a direction for our creativity to manifest through sankalpa. This direction is a conscious understanding of the positivity of life, and working to attain that positive quality becomes our direction.

Fourthly, we have to develop concentration through the process of visualization. This is possibly the most important part of any pratyahara technique, including yoga nidra. How do we concentrate? How do we focus our minds? We tend to think and intensify that thinking. We tend to become aware of something and intensify that awareness. We tend to hold our mind fixed at one point and intensify that fixation. That is the normal understanding of concentration – looking at something very intensely through the eyes of the mind, and not allowing the mind to waver left or right. However, this kind of concentration creates more stress in the mind and psychic personality. Concentration has to be a uniform experience of one-pointedness, without creating any kind of internal reaction or tension.

The Chitta is the mind stuff. It is the mental substance. Vritti or thought-wave is a modification of that mental substance. It is a process. Just as waves and bubbles arise from the surface of the ocean, so also these Vrittis arise from the surface of the mind-ocean. Just as rays emanate from the sun, so also these mental rays (modification of Vrittis) emanate from the mind-sun. Just as the sun merges itself in the horizon at sunset by collecting all its rays, so also you will have to merge in that Sun of suns, Absolute Consciousness, Eterna Peace by collecting all the dissipated mental rays and dissolving the mind itself.

The function of a Vritti in the mind is to cause Avarana-Bhanga (removal of the veil of ignorance covering objects). Sthula Avidya or gross ignorance is enveloping all objects. When the veil is removed, perception of objects becomes possible. The Vritti removes the Avarana or layer of ignorance. When you pass through a big crowd or persons, you are able to notice a few persons. You do not see some persons, though they happen to come in front of you. Why? Because there was not complete Avarana-Bhanga. When this is done, the object shines before you.

Kinds Of Vritti

Vrittis have been classified into five kinds: (1) Mano-Vritti, (2) Buddhi Vritti, (3) Sakshi Vritti, (4) Akhandakara Vritti and (5) Akhanda Ekarasa Vritti. No. 1 belongs to the instinctive mind. Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 5 belong to the Sattvic mind. Mano-Vritti is the Vishayakara Vritti of worldlings. Buddhi Vritti belongs to Vivekins. When you identify yourself with the Sakshi Vritti, you can witness the modifications of the mind. When you try to feel that you are the Infinite Self, the Akhandakara Vritti is generated. It is also known as Brahmakara Vritti. There is no Vritti in Brahman.

From Mano-Vritti, you must jump to Viveka Vritti.

A minority of people may experience mental health problems to such a degree that they may be diagnosed as having a mental illness, requiring the involvement of specialist services and support. The majority of people will not experience mental illness, but will undoubtedly experience mental health problems at different times in their lives. Our mental well-being is an issue for all of us to consider all of the time, as we might consider our physical well-being.

Today, everyone is so busy in their lives that there is no mental peace left in their lives and this thing is ruining their physical as well as mental health. More and more people are making yoga as an important part of their fitness regime so as to achieve, mental health and peace. Yoga is easy to follow there are very good yoga guides available in the market and, more importantly, Yoga has time and again proven how good. It can be for having good physical as well as mental health and peace. Here are a few tips on how Yoga helps you in healing your mind, fight against mental anxiety and help in mind relaxation:

Yoga benefits anyone’s mental health by helping him or her relax, and it is an effective form of psychological therapy.

Yoga helps you breathe freely and relieves you from mental stress

Yoga reduces anxiety and stress, resulting in better health, better mood, and better concentration throughout the day.

Yoga has been used to help treat a wide variety of emotional and mental disorders, including acute anxiety, depression, and mood swings.

Even children can benefit from yoga. Those with attention deficit disorder and hyperactivity can learn to relax and get control by using yoga breathing and yoga asanas.

Because yoga is a form of meditation, it results in a sense of inner peace and purpose, which has far-reaching health benefits.

Yoga has been used to help heal victims of torture or other trauma.

The word "depression" has become a very common problem in the contemporary society. Depression is a state of sadness. However, it is not major depression, which is a mental condition characterised by a severe state of sadness or melancholy that reaches the point of hindering a person from functioning well in society. Simple depression (or a depressed mood) may only last for a short time and can be treated easily; major depression can last for a longer time and treatment can vary from person to person. Some of the symptoms of depression include physical and mental fatigue, loss of appetite, a feeling of intense fear or melancholy and loss of interest in day to day activities. Changes in sleeping patterns, concentration level, outlook, suicidal tendencies may also appear. Dysthymia is a long-term depression that lasts for at least two years; while Bipolar Disorder is characterized by mood swings that go from depression to mania (extremely elevated mood) and vice versa.

Some public health professionals contend that the apparent beneficial effects of positive emotions do not stem from anything intrinsically protective in upbeat mind states, but rather from the fact that positive emotions mark the absence of negative moods and self-destructive habits. They believe that there is more to the phenomenon—and that scientists are only beginning to glean the possible biological, behavioral, and cognitive mechanisms.

Happy people have younger hearts, younger arteries, and a younger RealAge. Happy people recover more quickly from surgery, cope better with pain, have lower blood pressure, and have longer life expectancy than unhappy people.

Health and happiness

Happiness is in the mind, and the mind is supported by the body – a healthy mind lives in a healthy body. Your happiness depends on yourmind and it depends on your body. Without physical health you can't be completely happy, and without mental happiness you can't be completely healthy. Health is a positive state; not just the absence of a negative one. It's not only the absence of disease. For too long now traditional Western medicine has treated illness as only a disease: an enemy that attacks you and needs to be counter-attacked; but in reality it's nothing more than an imbalance in the natural harmony of body and mind. True healing means restoring that balance, and true health means keeping it.

Yoga means "to unify." It's the holistic approach to all aspects of life: physical, mental and spiritual. Yoga views the person as a whole; as a unique combination of body, mind and soul, and its techniques maintain that body-mind-soul harmony.

The World Health Organization defines mental health as "a being of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community". It was previously stated that there was no one "official" definition of mental health. Cultural differences, subjective assessments, and competing professional theories all affect how "mental health" is defined.

Most recently, the field of Global Mental Health has emerged, which has been defined as 'the area of study, research and practice that places a priority on improving mental health and achieving equity in mental health for all people worldwide'.

Meaning

  1. A state of emotional and psychological well-being in which an individual is able to use his or her cognitive and emotional capabilities, function in society, and meet the ordinary demands of everyday life.

  2. A branch of medicine that deals with the achievement and maintenance of psychological well-being.

  3.  A person's overall emotional and psychological condition: Since witnessing the accident, his mental health has been poor.

Definition of Mental Health

The term 'mental health problems' is one that encompasses a range of experiences and situations. Mental health might usefully be viewed as a continuum of experience, from mental well-being through to a severe and enduring mental illness. We all experience changes in our mental health state, influenced by social, personal, financial and other factors. Major life events such as a close bereavement, or leaving home, can impact significantly on how we feel about ourselves, for example, leading to depression and anxiety.

The Divine Grace is always there to help those who have decided to correct themselves, and they cannot say, "I am too weak to correct myself." They can say that they still haven't taken the resolution to correct themselves. Somewhere in the being, there is something that has not decided to do it, and that is what is serious.

When pain comes, it comes to teach us something. The quicker we learn it, the more the need for pain diminishes, and when we know the secret, it will no longer be possible to suffer, for that secret reveals to us the reason, the cause, the origin of suffering, and the way to pass beyond it. The secret is to emerge from the ego, get out of its prison, unite ourselves with the "Divine", merge into Him, not to allow anything to separate us from Him. Then, once one has discovered this secret and realises it in one's being, pain loses its justification and suffering disappears. It is an all-powerful remedy.

There is no illness, no disorder which can resist the discovery of this secret and the putting of it into practice, not only in the higher parts of the being but in the cells of the body. If one knows how to teach the cells the splendor that lies within them, if one knows how to make them understand the reality which makes them exist, gives them being, then they too enter the total harmony , and the physical disorder which causes the illness vanishes as do all other disorders of the being. But for that one must be neither cowardly nor fearful. When the physical disorder comes, one must not be afraid; one must not run away from it, must face it with courage, calmness, confidence, with the certitude that illness is a falsehood and that if one turns entirely, in full confidence, with a complete quietude to the Divine Grace. It will settle in these cells as it is established in the depths of the being, and the cells themselves will share in the eternal Truth and Delight."

Being overweight is a problem that is ripe for using the brain in a new way. More than one-third of Americans are overweight, and over a quarter are obese. Leaving aside medical issues, this epidemic is caused by the divorces we make. In a society that consumes on average ISO pounds of sugar a year, eats one-tenth of all meals at McDonald's, and indulges in larger portion sizes every every decade, you'd think our bad choices are so glaring that we'd rush to reverse them. But we don't, and massive public health advisories don't seem to help. Obesity has grown beyond reason because reason isn't effective in stepping it.

What is the baseline brain doing wrong? The culprit used to be considered moral. Being overweight was a sign of personal weakness, a holdover from the medieval inclusion of gluttony among the seven deadly sins. In the back of their minds, many overweight people accuse themselves of lack of willpower. If only they could stop being self-indulgent! If only they could stop punishing themselves with calorics that fuel a vicious circle: eating puts on pounds, which leads to a worse self-image, and filling bad about yourself gives you a good reason to console yourself by eating even more.

Decisions are conscious; habits aren't. In that simple statement, we begin to see being overweight from the brain's perspective. The unconscious parts of the brain have been trained to demand food that the higher brain docsn't want. The swing between overeating, remorse, and overeating - hasa counterpart in physiology. The hormones that serve as natural signals indicating that you have satisfied your hunger either get suppressed or are countered by other hormones that signal a ravenous appetite. Food itself isn't the issue.

Body Types

There's nothing more important than our good health - that's our principal capital asset.

Did you ever notice that some people are just naturally skinny, naturally fat or naturally lean and muscular? It’s not your imagination. There are definitely different body types and genetics out there and they definitely play a role in how our bodies look.

More importantly, these different body types play a role in how easy or hard it is to change how our bodies look. Think about it…

Some people (ectomorphs) seem to eat whatever they want and never gain weight. Some people (endomorphs) seem to get fat no matter how much they workout or how little they eat. Some people (mesomorphs) look like they workout, even when they don’t.

This is all very real, and these genetic factors are something we all have to live with whether we like it or not. Fortunately though, we aren’t stuck being what our natural body types make us out to be, we can ALL improve the way we want as long as we do what we need to do.

So, let’s start with the basics. There are 3 different body types…

1. Ectomorph

2. Mesomorph

3. Endomorph

Common Genetic Traits of Ectomorphs:

  • Lightning fast metabolism.

  •

  • Tiny bone structure (skinny wrists, skinny ankles, etc.).

  • Sometimes a little hyper, and often times overly frigidity (which increases their NEAT – non exercise activity thermogenesis – which is part of what causes that super fast metabolism).

  • Often picky eaters who don’t always possess a huge appetite.

  • Naturally lacking muscle and strength.

  •

  • Naturally skinny, although not naturally lean (there’s a difference).

So if your goal is to just be skinny or to excel at a sport primarily based on endurance, you definitely want to be an ectomorph rather than an endomorph and possibly even a mesomorph.

But if your goal is to build muscle, be strong, get big, or be fast and explosive, then the last thing you want to be is an ectomorph. Trust me, I know.

Like I said, I started off super skinny and my only real goal was to build muscle and gain weight. I know first hand, exactly, how much harder it is to reach these goals, if you aren’t born with one of the body types that are much more ideal for reaching them.

The same genetic factors that make us naturally skinny are the same factors that make gaining weight and building muscle as hard as it can possibly be. It also puts a lower limit on the amount of muscle we are genetically capable of building and how big we are capable of getting.

Common Genetic Traits of Endomorphs:

  • Super slow metabolism.

  • Thick bone structure (thick wrists, thick ankles, etc.).

  • Often people who love to eat and have huge appetites.

  • Naturally big and strong.

  • Naturally lacking tone, definition and any real form of leanness.

So if your goal is to just be really big and strong or excel at sports and activities based around these physical characteristics, then you definitely want to be an endomorph rather than an ectomorph and possibly even a mesomorph.

But if your goal is to be skinny, lean, ripped, toned or anything similar, then, you endomorphs definitely have your work cut out for you. People with this body type will definitely have a harder time losing fat (or just losing weight in general).

So, while this is the body type that can typically gain the most muscle and be the strongest of the group,

endomorphs definitely get screwed when it comes to fat loss. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t lose as much fat as you need to. You most definitely can… it’s just going to be a bit harder than it is for a mesomorph or an ectomorph.

Common Genetic Traits of Mesomorphs:

  • Ideal metabolic rate (not too fast, not too slow).

  • Ideal bone structure (not too thick, not too thin).

  • Naturally lean (instead of naturally “skinny” like an ectomorph).

  • Naturally muscular (instead of naturally “big” like an endomorph).

  • Naturally athletic.

Mesomorphs gain muscle almost as well as an endomorph, and lose fat almost as well as an ectomorph. In fact, mesomorphs are the people who are often just naturally muscular and lean without putting any time or effort into a diet or workout. And when they do? Their rate and degree of improvement blows the rest of us away.

So, if your goal is to have pretty much anything anyone would consider the “perfect body” or excel at a sport or activity based around having the perfect combination of speed, explosiveness, strength and endurance, you definitely want to be a mesomorph.
